Fluence International, Inc.
Full-Stack Developer at Fluence: the work, and the project you build first
A six-month contract to build secure web apps for mental-health clinicians. Before anyone speaks to you, you build a small app of your own.
Fluence is hiring a remote full stack developer on a contract. They build web products for clinicians, researchers and organisations that work in psychedelic-assisted therapy and mental health. The developer would build those apps and keep them running, and would report to their Senior AI & Design Lead.
The work
- Build and maintain web apps with React and Next.js.
- Design back ends and APIs. AWS matters here. They name Lambda, ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, RDS or DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront and Cognito.
- Set up secure sign-in, permissions and role-based access for clinicians, admins and other users.
- Design data with privacy and audit trails in mind.
- Connect to other APIs and outside services.
- Add logging, watch performance, ship production code, and write down your decisions.
They also list some things as a plus: AWS Bedrock and CloudTrail, Datadog and Sentry, Convex, and building n8n automation workflows. They ask for experience with AI features in production, with guardrails, logging and security in mind.
What they ask for
- At least 3 years as a full-stack or front-end-heavy engineer.
- Strong React, Next.js and TypeScript or JavaScript.
- Hands-on AWS for real production work.
- Web security basics: OWASP, secure storage, encryption, and handling secrets.
- Clear written communication, and comfort working in a small, senior team.
- Experience in healthcare, education or other rule-heavy settings is a plus.
How the process works
- A take-home project. You do this first.
- A technical and product interview. You walk them through your solution, your design, your thinking on security, and how you work with others.
- A six-month contract for the right person. They say there is strong potential to renew it, based on performance.
The take home coding challenge, in plain words
You build “LendLoop”, a small board where neighbours lend tools to each other. They say you may use AI tools to write the code. They made it unrelated to healthcare on purpose, so your work will not be used by Fluence.
What they want to see:
- A public page showing available tools, and a sign-in button.
- Signed-in users can list a tool, ask to borrow it for a date range, approve or decline requests, and mark a loan as returned.
- Two roles, admin and user. The rules must be enforced in the back end, not only on screen.
- Two automations built in n8n: one that notifies people when a request changes, and one that sends daily reminders about overdue loans.
- Safe connections between the parts: signed messages, secrets kept out of the code, and retries that do not create duplicates.
- Failures that show up, not ones that pass silently.
You hand in a code repository, your exported n8n workflow files, a README, and a short note on what you would change to run it for real. The stack they name is Next.js, Clerk, Convex, n8n and TypeScript.
How to apply
Email your portfolio and your GitHub repository to techjobs@fluencetraining.com. You can add one or two other projects. Include a short note about a security or privacy choice you made, or would make, in healthcare or a similar setting.
The posting also asks you to put one word in your email to show you read it all. The word is pineapple.
What the posting does not say
- Where you may live and work, which time zone they expect, and how many hours a week.
- Pay, in the posting itself. The range comes from Remotive’s listing.
- Whether the take-home is paid.
- Who signs the contract, and how and in which currency you would be paid.
- Where the company is based.
Our read
This is a big take-home. Count the parts: sign-in, roles, data, two automations, signed messages and a README. We would plan for more than one evening.
Remotive lists the role as Worldwide. The posting does not say how people in other countries are contracted or paid. A short email asking that costs you nothing, and the answer could save you a weekend.
We write about this role from the Remotive listing as it stood on 2 November 2026. Roles change and close. If you spot a mistake, tell us and we will correct it.
